Flown

The day finally arrived.

After six months of thinking and planning, The Baseball Guy got on a plane. Seven weeks this summer, he and a friend will be interns for our missionary family in Ghent, Belgium.

Two airplanes, a train, a bus, and a walk later, they arrived safe and sound. Tired and hungry as only two teenage boys who've traveled for 20+ hours can be, I imagine.

It is a mind-boggling thing to know your 'baby' is a quarter of the way around the planet....and he got there without a parental type accompanying him.

Maybe he is all grown up, after all.

If you are a praying person, please offer a prayer for their safety, their growth, and their ability to be a blessing to others this summer.

My house is very, very quiet.

What an experience your son will have. Belgium is a lovely country. May he feel God's love and blessings surrounding him.

Got it. Will continue to pray.

BTW, I'm in on the Memoir Monday thing. I'm assuming we had a week to think and write, and we post nabout travels next Monday, and you'll give out the next topic that day as well.

Am I over-thinking this??? LOL

I'm such a systems person.

Call me about breakfast with the B-girls. Bon suggests the first week of July. Need to get it on the books or we'll miss the opportunity.

I had the OPPOSITE experience - I had to trust the kids to get to the US by themselves and immerse themselves into American culture, which was foreign to them to a certain extent. We moved to Trinidad when Jen was a freshman - our first move without her. Then Tim graduated from HS in T&T and came back to attend UT Austin. Felt like I was leaving him in the Den of Destruction with all those floozy girls in their skimpy clothing...I cried leaving him off for just orientation. Felt like I was leaving my lamb amidst the she-wolves. And Chris moved back to Texas after his bro graduated as T&T wasn't really a good place for teenage boys (which his how he came to be in Bedford back in 1999 and has been here since).

Jennifer used to go shopping in Target and I'd phone her from London and we'd "shop" together, sometimes even going so far as to go to our respective Starbucks and "have coffee together". We do what we can and are the better for it.

It is hard to let them go. But they do come back to you in different ways - the call of the nest is strong with them as well for MANY years! Take heart!!

I stumbled on your blog today through my younger brother's blog. You had written that you had prayed for my family on May the 28th. I just wanted you to know that I will be praying for you and your son as he is experiencing Belgium. My 18 year old son is in the jungles of Panama right now and my daughter who is 20 spent last summer living in Brazil and last semester living in Oxford...that is what we have in common. Now for what we don't...your garden is beautiful...I'm in awe and wondered if you would like to come to Midland and transform my yard?? I am kidding of course but I enjoyed all the pictures and reading your blog. Thank you for lifting my family up in prayer.
